I'd go back to factory conditons from the recovery discs or recovery partition. Problem arose when MS advised that I should install free upgrade to 8. There's no need to have warranty to install a legal OS. I suppose the laptop came with the disks or instructions on how to go back to factory conditions.
If not, you'll have to spend some money to get it. As you may or not know there are issues if you try to "upgrade" from a 32 to a 64 bit version. Odd messages like that can occur. Did you know about that issue? If the installed OS was 32 then an upgrade to 64 bit is problematic. In fact, I'm going to write that Microsoft has not offered a way to do this short of a clean install. Yes, software can be installed, but upgrades and updates other than security fixes that Microsoft feels benefits the entire community are also blocked.
